Beautiful weather smiled on the Winter Wonderland event hosted by the RP Lee Youth Center, Saturday, December 13, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for children ages 2 to 12 years and their family and friends.
The Youth Center gymnasium transformed into a holiday backdrop of face-painting and craft stations, covered in candy canes, gum drops, and trimmings. Teens, dressed in festive costumes, helped the little ones make gifts — one to donate and one to take. It was hard to tell which had more glitter — the children or their crafts.
Mrs. and Mrs. Claus flew in from the North Pole, so that Santa could pose for family photos during the event. (The reindeer napped on the roof.) Excited little ones waited their turn to jump into the jolly man’s lap. A robust “ho, ho, ho” brought giggles to a toddler-aged boy covered in cookie crumbs.
In addition to the $5 per family admission fee, attendees contributed non-perishable foods and pet items. The Boys and Girls Club/Keystone Club teens donated the non-perishable foods to the PAFB First Sergeants’ food panty for airmen in need, and as part of the Torch Club’s national project, Protecting Animals with Service (PAWS), all of the pet donations support animal shelters.
