Kickoff for Super Bowl 51 was 4:30 p.m. MST Sunday, February 5, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, but the exciting local prelude to it began at 1:30 p.m. at The Club at Peterson AFB. Awesome food! Super football! Nice prizes! Amusing commercials! Half-time extravaganza! What a great event!
Our tailgate party started at 2 p.m. and the food was great: Fried chicken, Texas steak fingers, Texas red chili, buffalo meatballs, a nacho bar consisting of borracho nacho chips, warm salsa roja and queso blanco. There was also jalapeno cornbread, a mixed green salad with dressing and a fresh veggie tray. At half time, our still-hungry patrons devoured the junk food buffet assortment.
The game was viewed on 17 big screen TVs in the Colorado Pizza & Sports Grill and in the Main Lounge. Themed drink specials and product samplings were served throughout the game.
Some very lucky winners scored some terrific door prizes.
Admission was $12 for Club members, $15 for non-Club members.
