Read to the Rhythm for summer reading – Space Observer, June 23, 2015
Read to the Rhythm was this year’s theme of the Library’s Summer Reading Program. The program ran June 8, through July 18.
The program was a resounding success with 838 registrants. All were welcome to participate: babies, toddlers, children of all ages, teenagers, adults, active duty of any military branch, spouses, retirees, civil service, NAF, Guard, Reserves.
Everyone who met the reading requirements were winners. The children qualified for weekly prizes — adults were entered for end-of-program awards.
Storytimes on Wednesdays featured teen musicians, who brought musical instruments to demonstrate and to share. Special guest readers, the Chick-fil-A Cow and our friend from Ent, delighted the young ones with a variety of special books, games, and treats. The kazoos from Ent were a definite favorite! Can you, kazoo?
The Library hosted a celebration party from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on July 18 with a bounce house, carnival games, refreshments, and free books. Approximately 280 children and families dropped by for the fun activities.
One lucky reader won a stuffed version of that famous cow (It wouldn’t make any sense to give away a real cow, now would it?). All of our registered readers appreciate the generous donation of the Chick-fil-A kid’s meals and treats coupons.
A special shout-out goes to our amazing sponsors whose generous support enhances the quality of this rewarding program. It just keeps getting better because of YOU!
