The Peterson AFB Library hosted the Paws to Read Summer Reading Program on June 2 through July 12. This year’s Program was a terrific success with 753 registrants reading 6,323 hours, a substantial increase over 2013.
The Paws to Read theme inspired participation from our furry, four-legged companions, who shared books with their favorite family members and friends. (Scroll down to the bottom to see who read to whom!)
What a doggone delightful day we had at the June 11th Storytime. Lance and Otto — Great Dane brothers — shared the celebrity spotlight with their humans, 21 FSS Commander Major Schlichenmaier and her family. Space was at a premium. The parking lots were full and attendees overflowed into the main Library. Otto and Lance were a definite hit.
We appreciate the sponsors who volunteered as guest readers, each of whom added variety and their own special flair to the weekly Storytimes. Thank you! to Chick-fil-A, Ent Federal Credit Union, our young representatives from Banning Lewis Ranch Academy, Abagayle and Markel (accompanied by the University of Phoenix representative), and Miss Wendy of Wendy’s of Colorado Springs.
The Summer Reading Program concluded Saturday, July 12, with an outdoor party from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Library, Bldg. 1171. There were carnival games, a bounce house, prizes, free books, and popcorn. The children had a blast. The party was made possible because of the generous support from our sponsors.
We invite your business or organization to sponsor the 2015 Summer Reading Program at the Peterson AFB Library. Contact Marjorie Bennett, Commercial Sponsorship & Advertising, at (719) 556-4977.
