Reading by Design

Imagine.  Read.  Design.

Reading by Design, the DoD’s Summer Reading Program, began Thursday, June 1, and ended with a party on the library lawn on Saturday, July 29.

The Program at the Peterson AFB Library was a resounding success.

  • A total of 781 people registered.
  • That number includes: 268 adults (age 19 and older), 71 teens (ages 13-18), 442 children (ages 0-12).
  • The total reading time:  6,764 hours and 23 minutes.  That’s a lot of reading!

Registrants were able to track their reading time online at: https://petersonafblibrary.beanstack.org.  Digital badges were awarded with every login for children and adults, which automatically entered users to win prize drawings throughout the program.    The online site allowed for effortless, efficient, and rewarding participation for all.

End-of-Program Party

An estimated 1703 attended the end-of-program party on July 29.    A variety of games and activities engaged the children and their families.  Attendees left with bags loaded with t-shirts, swag, and game prizes.   Dion’s generously provided their signature delicious pizza  — free to participants.   The USO table was very popular with their Zynga game stations.

Storytimes

Weekly Storytime events, based on topics related to Design (Science, Technology, Engineering, Space) were hosted throughout the Program with special guest readers.   Children were provided a variety of hands-on, interactive activities to ignite their imaginations.
