Inclement Weather Procedures for 21FSS

February 25 –

UPDATE, 7 a.m.: The garrison commander has directed base closure for PAFB, SAFB and CMAFS to non-mission essential personnel. Non-mission essential personnel do not report to work 25 Feb 2021. Mission essential personnel will still report for duty. Weather safety conditions vary widely across the Pikes Peak area, so individuals with traveling concerns should contact their leadership for risk management issues. If duty status is changed, information will be updated on installation social media pages, snow call line 719-556-SNOW, local radio and television stations. The west gate will remain the only open gate during this closure.
5.m…For Peterson AFB, Schriever AFB, and Cheyenne Mountain AFS, delayed reporting is in effect for Feb. 25 for all non-mission essential personnel due to varying road conditions across the Pikes Peak area with telework highly encouraged. Regardless of duty hours, personnel shall depart their residence no earlier than 10:30 a.m. to ensure staggered reporting at the installation. It is important for non-mission essential personnel to comply with delayed reporting. This allows snow removal crews time to safely clear roads and parking lots with minimal obstructions for maximum safety. The BX will open at its normal time, the commissary will open at 11, and Child and Youth Services are mission essential only until 1030. Weather safety conditions vary widely across the Pikes Peak area, so individuals with commuting concerns should contact their leadership for risk management issues. If duty status is changed, information will be updated on installation Facebook pages, snow call line (719) 556-SNOW, local radio and television stations. During Peterson AFB delays/closures, the east and north gates are closed. Mission essential personnel must use the west gate. Leadership will continue to assess conditions and any changes to status will be distributed through these channels.

CDC and School Age Care:
If Wing leadership directs a closure for Peterson AFB, the CDC Main will open at normal time for CDC and School Age Care children of key and essential personnel only.  Care will be consolidated to the CDC Main for both child and school age care.

If Wing leadership directs a phased early release for Peterson AFB – except for key and essential personnel, personnel are reminded to pick up their children from CDC and School Age care as soon as safely possible.

If Wing leadership directs a delayed reporting until 9:30 am for Peterson AFB, CDCs and School Age care is available for key and essential personnel only until the report-no-earlier time, when programs will open for normal operations.

(All key and mission essential members must have a letter on file from their squadron commanders (or equivalent) for CDC/school age care. For more information, call 719-554-9572 or 719-556-7460 for CDCs and 719-556-7220 for School Age care.)

Youth Programs:
During times of delay, early release and closure, youth programs/open recreation will be closed. If schools are closed and not the installation, programs will be offered starting at 3 pm. For more information call 719-556-7220.

School Buses:
Buses will come on base at their normal time if the school district is not delayed regardless of the status of the base. If the school is running on a delayed schedule, buses will run accordingly.

Family Childcare Provider:
In-home childcare providers set their own hours. Families should discuss this with their care provider.

Dining Facility:
Open normal hours of operation to support Airmen on essential station messing and key and mission essential personnel.

Fitness Center:
If a delay is called in the morning during the week (M-F), the Fitness Center will close – or remain closed – upon receiving the snow calls / delayed reporting.  This is to allow for adequate snow removal for the facility.  If a delay is called the night prior, the Fitness Center will open at the posted delay time, regardless of day of week. All classes prior to the reporting time will be cancelled. For installation closures, the Fitness Center will be closed. If there is early release, the facility closes within an hour of the latest posted departure time.

WAPS Testing:
Testing starts at 12 p.m. during delayed reporting. Testing starts at 10 a.m. and is not impacted by delays. In the event of a base closure all testing is cancelled. Please call 719-556-4996 for additional information.

MWR facilities, Manpower Flight, Airman and Family Readiness Flight, Military Personnel Flight and Civilian Personnel Flight:
Follow all installation delays, early releases and closures as directed.
