America’s Kids Run

Boy, did those kids run! (See photo gallery below.)

An estimated 236 children and their families participated in the America’s Kids Run from 8 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, at Peak View Park at Pete East. The event, hosted by the RP Lee Youth Center, was free and open to the military community.

The day began with T-shirt pickup from 8 – 8:45 a.m. at the sign-in table. The kids took off running at 9 a.m. What enthusiasm!

Ages 6 and younger ran half a mile; ages 7 to 8 ran one mile; those age 9 and older ran two miles. One of the youth runners videotaped the race with his Go-Pro head camera.

After the run, the kids cooled off with a refreshing Water Blast, courtesy of the Fire Department.

The bouncy castles, putt-putt golf, face painting, and prize drawings provided additional fun, along with the free popcorn, sno-cones, and hot dogs. There were plenty of ear-to-ear grins shared between the kids and the adults throughout the event.
