GARDEN OF THE GODS ROCK CLIMBING – August 31

 

Garden of the Gods was one of the first established rock climbing areas in the country. With beautiful sandstone rock formations and a rich history, it is a great resource right here in our backyard. Let our knowledgeable staff show you the ropes, so to speak, at this incredible National Natural Landmark. Sign up early! Our climbing programs fill up fast.

This program is open to RecOn eligible participants at a discounted price, and is open to all others eligible to sue Outdoor Recreation facilities and services at regular price.

Cost:  $10 R$R eligible participants / $60 general price

RAPPELLING – Saturday, September 7

Come out to beautiful North Cheyenne Cañon with Outdoor Rec for a fun-filled day learning how to rappel. Rappelling is a valuable skill to learn if you plan on getting into rock climbing or canyoneering. Plus, it is a great way to take in the stunning scenery of North Cheyenne Cañon from a perspective that few others experience. Participants must be 10 years old or older, and weigh 60 pounds or greater.

This program is open to all personnel eligible to use Outdoor Recreation facilities and services at regular price, and is open to RecOn eligible participants at a discounted price.

Cost: $10 RecOn eligible participants; $45 general price

Location: North Cheyenne Cañon

Meet Time: 8 a.m.

End Time: 12 p.m.

ROCK CLIMBING 101 – September 20 & 21

If you are ready to learn what it takes to start rock climbing outside on your own, let us show you the ropes, literally! During this two-day course, you will learn the fundamentals of belaying, rappelling, and anchor building. We will also cover the basic gear you will need and how to use it. Participants must be 16 years old or older.

This program is open to all personnel eligible to use Outdoor Recreation facilities and services at regular price, and is open to RecOn eligible participants at a discounted price.

Cost: $25 RecOn eligible participants; $90 general price

Location: Outdoor Rec (Friday, Sept. 20), North Cheyenne Cañon (Saturday, Sept. 21)

Time: Friday, 5-8 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Sign-up deadline: 12 p.m. Wednesday, September 18

ROCK CLIMBING – September 22  

Castlewood Canyon State Park is a hidden gem about an hour north of Peterson AFB, and is a great place to spend a day rock climbing. Cost includes transportation, park entry fee, guide, and climbing equipment. Sign up early, our climbing programs fill up fast!

This program is open to all personnel eligible to use Outdoor Recreation facilities and services at regular price, and is open to RecOn eligible participants at a discounted price.

Cost: $15 RecOn eligible participants;$70 general price

Location: Castlewood Canyon (Meet at ODR) 

Meet Time: 9 a.m.

End Time: 2 p.m.

BOULDERING – October 5

Garden of the Gods is pretty well known for its roped rock climbing, but there are plenty of opportunities for bouldering as well!

Bouldering is a form of climbing that keeps things lower to the ground and uses minimal gear. It is a great way to challenge yourself mentally and physically, and is also a great option for those who want to climb but have a complicated relationship with heights! We will be heading out to the Snake Pit bouldering area at Garden of the Gods, where climbers of all skill levels can find challenging and fun bouldering problems.

This program is open to all personnel eligible to use Outdoor Recreation facilities and services at regular price, and is open to RecOn eligible participants at a discounted price.

Cost: $10 RecOn eligible participants; $40 general price

Location: Garden of the Gods

ROCK CLIMBING MOVEMENT CLASS – October 16

Learn the basics of rock climbing movement from our experienced ODR staff. Join us at the Fitness Center to learn how to crimp, mantle, and flag, as well as the difference between a jug, sloper, and pocket. We will go over everything you need to know to get you moving on rock with more grace and efficiency.

This program is open to all personnel eligible to use Outdoor Recreation facilities and services.

Cost: $10

Location: Fitness Center

Meet Time: 4:30 p.m.

End Time: 6 p.m.

ROCK CLIMBING – October 26

Colorado is home to the world-renowned climbing area known as Shelf Road. Whether you’re just getting into rock climbing or are a seasoned climber, this trip is sure to excite, push your limits, and help you learn the skills you need to climb on your own.

This program is open to all personnel eligible to use Outdoor Recreation facilities and services at regular price, and is open to RecOn eligible participants at a discounted price.

Cost: $15 RecOn eligible participants; $70 general price

Location: Shelf Road Recreation Area (Meet at ODR)

Meet Time: 8 a.m.

End Time: 3 p.m.

Sign-up deadline: 12 p.m. Thursday, October 24
