Materials
The library owns approximately 40,000 items including books, videos, audio books and periodicals.

Online Resources:

OVERDRIVE

Overdrive is a collection of audiobooks and electronic books that can be checked out to an Internet capable device for use during its checkout period. Each item checked out will automatically be returned to the collection when the end of the checkout period is reached. Come into the library and get one of our bookmarks. On the back you will find the access instructions you will need to register and begin to use this service.

RESEARCH & REFERENCE DATABASES 

Come into the Library and get one of our bookmarks. On the back you will find access instructions (URLs, User IDs and passwords) to online resources that can be used for research, whether educational, recreational, or personal.

TRANSPARENT LANGUAGE ONLINE LANGUAGE LEARNING

You must come into the Library and use our workstation to register you and any other family members (each a separate registration) that want to start learning a new language. Once registered with Transparent Language from the library workstation – a confirmation e-mail will be sent to whichever e-mail address you used during the registration process. Once you receive your confirmation, you can access the Transparent Language Online Language Learning Center from any device with Internet connectivity. A wide variety of languages in a range of skill/fluency levels is available. Select the language you want to learn and BEGIN!

UNIVERSAL CLASS

Universal Class is an online service that offers over 500 classes in a wide variety of subjects. These classes are all online, self-pace, and totally free. There are no books to buy and no fees to pay. You can take one class or several. You determine what you want to do and when you want to do it. You and any, or all, other members of your family can register separately so that all members of your family can take classes that interest only them.

Come into the Library, get our handout with the Universal Class URL and a password to register. We cannot (due to the contract the AF has with the provider) put the password online; we need to hand it out to customers.

Once registered you can go into the different subject areas and look at course synopses. Select what you want and START!

ZINIO

This is an online resource that provides access to a large number of periodicals and newspapers. Current and past issues are available to read. In fact, current issues can be delivered when they are published to Internet capable devices such as tablets, phones, and computers.

Again, come into the library to get the registration information.

Reference Services
Staff members assist in locating information in the library and online.

Life-Long Learning Resources:

  • Family Literacy Kits – Brightly colored backpacks contain a book, DVD, and an activity sheet – sometimes in a second language – for children up to first grade.
  • Home Schooling Resources – Offering Core Knowledge Sequence Content Guidelines for K-8, Text Resources, Grace Abounding, The Complete Home Learning Source Book, Delta Education series, Ace Math, By the Numbers DVD series, and much more for home learning for children.
  • The Great Courses – This library edition offers courses on CD or DVD, all taught by distinguished professors at colleges and universities around the country.

Online Tutor Available
Get online tutoring and career help for free. Certified, professional tutors and resources are available 24/7 for all subjects and all levels – K-12 students, college students and adult learners. Tutors only work with one student at a time. And it’s a safe, secure place to learn.

This program is provided by the Department of Defense. Authorized users are active duty military and their dependents, deployed status Reservists and their dependents, deployed status National Guard and their dependents, and deployed status civilians and their dependents. Authorized users need to sign up at the base library (one person per personal e-mail address – cannot use a military e-mail address). Once the library staff registers you, www.tutor.com/airforce will send you a confirmation and you can begin using the site. To learn more, call the library at 556-7462 or stop by in person.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Materials not owned by the library may be borrowed from other libraries. To request an ILL, ask for the ILL forms at the circulation desk.

Programs
Children’s story times are offered Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

Book Drop available 24 hours a day. Please use the separate slot available for return of video and audio materials.

  • Conference Room will hold 36
  • Conference Room has a TV with DVD/VHS player
  • Conference Room has a digital projector available and pull down screen

Computers

  • 12 Commercial Internet workstations
  • 2 Family-use commercial Internet workstations
  • 3 Commercial Internet workstation w/ scanner
  • 2 Workstations in the juvenile room with educational games
  • 3 Workstations dedicated to OPAC

All workstations – First come, First served. No time limits except when a wait list develops – then one hour sessions are imposed while wait list exists. All customers MUST sign in at Circulation Desk. Peterson AFB Library is not responsible for material on the Internet. We do have a filter on all commercial Internet workstations. However, accessing inappropriate web sites may result in privileges being revoked, suspended, revoked, and/or possible legal action.
