Peterson, Schriever, and Cheyenne Mountain Team:
Transmission of the Delta variant of COVID-19 has been surging across the United States. As a result of the increasing transmission rates and associated risks, the Deputy Secretary of Defense (DSD) has presented additional guidance regarding mask wear. The DSD’s memorandum is attached for reference and reflects the following:
“In areas of substantial or high community transmission, DoD requires all Service members, Federal employees, onsite contractor employees, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask in an indoor setting in installations and other facilities owned, leased or otherwise controlled by DoD.”
This direction is also codified in the attached P-S Garrison PHD #7 Addendum given El Paso County is currently designated an area of “high community transmission” and the Peterson-Schriever Garrison’s Front Range installations fall under the purview of this latest DSD requirement. Transmission levels, as well as other local information regarding COVID-19 across the Pikes Peak region, can be referenced at https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view.
There may be circumstances that necessitate mask removal. For example, masks may be removed while individuals are actively eating at one of the food service or dining facility establishments on our installation(s). Also, there may be facilities where special circumstances or exceptions may be in place for mission or safety reasons, such as the fitness center or medical clinic(s). Please pay attention to special signage posted, or instructions by personnel, at such facilities for more detailed guidance.
This information is being provided as an update to Peterson-Schriever Garrison Public Health Directive #7, dtd July 19, 2021 (attached). This serves as a supplement to PHD #7, and all other facets of PHD #7 remain in effect. We will continue to monitor the status of the Delta variant in El Paso County and provide subsequent guidance and direction as local conditions change.
Stay safe … stay healthy!
