Sat., Oct. 17, was Military Appreciation Day at the Rocky Mountain USAF Flight Training Center (aka, Aero Club), a day set aside to thank military members for their service to our country. All military, DoD civilians, and their families were invited to take a 20-minute orientation flight in a small aircraft at an incredibly reduced rate.
The flights sold out quickly. The weather was perfect. The Aero Club Manager reported, “We flew over 100 people safely, from 0800 to 1630. All of the 13 instructors and office staff that were present, volunteered and worked for free. Everyone was delighted to see what it is like to fly a small aircraft. Some are coming back for more.”
One young passenger exited the plane, still gripping her stuffed bear. She flashed a front toothless smile and threw up her hands excitedly to exclaim, “I never been up THAT high . . . ever in my life!” A future pilot?
Customers enjoyed a complementary lunch prepared by the staff. The informal atmosphere prompted lively Q & A between some of the seasoned pilots, who offered their expertise to those interested in pursuing a similar career.
A very lucky customer won a free orientation flight with private pilot introduction, thanks to the generous support from our commercial sponsors.
Kudos to the many pilots, who are members of the Aero Club, for donating their time to make the flights super affordable and enjoyable for everyone. We also appreciate the volunteer staff for their time and effort to make this a memorable day.
