Key Spouses

A Key Spouse volunteer may be the spouse of an officer, an enlisted Airman, a Department of Defense civilian or other qualified person connected to the unit. Unit leaders formally select and appoint each Key Spouse. Senior officer or enlisted spouses are encouraged to serve as mentors or advisers. Staff members from the installation Airmen and Family Readiness Center provide initial and update training, and serve as a referral resource for Key Spouses.

The program’s structure is designed so the unit commander, Key Spouse, first sergeant, and Key Spouse mentor work as a team to ensure 100 percent follow-up with separated families. Currently at Peterson AFB, we have over 75 members in the Key Spouse networking group.

CHILDREN’S CLOTHING SWAP

Children seem to shoot up as fast as Jack’s Beanstalk. The challenge is to keep kids outfitted in nice- looking clothes that fit without breaking the bank. Well, the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Key Spouses and Peterson Spouses Club have the perfect solution – a Children’s Clothing Swap from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Schriever Main Fitness Center. There you will find some pretty cool clothes for kids – and even maternity fashions – all for free.Three children 200pxls1 Key Spouses

The swap is a two-part event. The first part is a clothing drop off. Gather up gently-used clothing for children from newborn through 18 years and maternity clothing and drop off your items between March 10 and April 19 at any of these Peterson AFB locations: Child Development Centers, RP Lee Youth Center, Fitness Center, Chapel, Medical Group, and at entrances to Mission Support Group building (Bldg. 350). Everyone on base is welcome to donate children/maternity clothing.

Then on Saturday, April 21, visit the Schriever Main Fitness Center to “shop” for incredible finds – all free. And, best of all, you don’t need to donate clothing in order to get clothing. There will also be information tables for the Education Center, HAWC, New Parent Support Program, A&FRC, the Peterson Spouses Club and more. The event is free to all military families. So bring the kids and have a great time.

This is the first Children’s Clothing Swap for the Front Range military community. If it’s successful, the hope is to make it an annual event for military families. Note that at the end of the event, all remaining clothing will be donated to local shelters.
