The bitter cold morning did not deter the 200 brave runners who participated in the second annual Armed Forces Community 5/10K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 12 at Peterson Air Force Base. The Run was a timed event and open to everyone, including the general public. Our deployed service members also joined the race from their locations at Thule Air Base in Greenland, Cape Cod Air Force Station in Massachusetts, Cavalier AFS in North Dakota, Clear AFS in Alaska, Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, Thumrait Air Base in Oman and Manas, Kurdistan.
Here at Peterson AFB, the America’s Kids Run followed the adult Run. Not to be outdone, children rode their tricycles rather than running with their peers. Others joined their parents in the grownup event.
Runners received a first-class schwag bag containing a timing chip, water bottle, nutrition bars, and a runner’s jersey. Vendors provided hot beverages and snacks, and the Blue Steel Band kept everyone warm with their energetic music. Thanks to AAFES for the designer running outfits provided for our lucky winners.
